Leading the Future of Digital Education

Why the new national curriculum proves we’ve been ahead of the curve all along…

The Department for Education’s newly announced curriculum reforms signal a major shift in how young people will be prepared for life and work in the modern world. With a stronger focus on digital skills, media literacy, AI awareness and digital citizenship, the message is clear: our education system must evolve to match the realities of a fast-changing, technology-driven society.

At Jam Coding, we’ve been talking about, and teaching this approach since 2014. Which, coincidentally, is the last time a curriculum review of this scale was introduced by the government.

But how does the new National Curriculum align with what we’ve been doing and what does it mean for our schools and pupils?

Building Digital Futures, Not Just Teaching Coding

The new curriculum aims to make sure every child leaves school ready for real-world challenges. It will include:

  • Digital and media literacy so pupils can identify misinformation and navigate the online world safely.
  • A modernised computing curriculum, including new pathways in data science and AI.
  • A stronger emphasis on citizenship, covering media literacy, democracy, finance, law, and online responsibility.
  • Better support for teachers through clear sequencing, guidance, and access to CPD.

These are important changes to prepare children for the world they are growing up in. At Jam Coding, this is the approach we’ve already built into our unique curriculum. It already exists!

Jam Coding: Ahead of the Curve

For years, our multi-award-winning programmes have been preparing children not just to use technology, but to understand and shape it. We embed lessons in AI, robotics, coding and digital citizenship throughout our order of learning. The order of learning crucially builds on prior skills and knowledge, helping children think critically, creatively, and ethically about the digital world.

Furthermore, the promise of an oracy framework across all subjects in the National Curriculum is something already built into our curriculum. Every unit of work contains specific teaching around subject-specific terminology related to the topic, with handy keyword flash cards and classroom displays for working walls.

We don’t wait for curriculum updates. We anticipate them.

Empowering Teachers Through CPD and Support

The government’s new curriculum rightly recognises that teachers need time, resource, support, and confidence to deliver high-quality digital education.

We work in collaboration with schools to provide:

  • Full digital curriculum delivery, aligned with and extending beyond national expectations.
  • Ongoing CPD and coaching to build teacher confidence in the full computing and digital curriculum.
  • Classroom-ready resources that remove barriers to teaching and make digital learning accessible to all.

By taking care of the complexity, we give teachers space to do what they do best; teach, inspire, and guide their pupils.

Proven Impact – Real Results

Our approach works.

  • 68% of Jam Coding pupils achieve above their expected outcomes in computing.
  • We’re on track for some of our 11-year-old learners to sit the equivalent of an entry-level GCSE within the next 12 months.

How do we do it? By removing barriers to teaching, building on every child’s prior skills and knowledge, and helping them reach beyond what they thought possible.

Beyond the Curriculum – The Next Level

It’s important to note that the full curriculum isn’t out until Spring 2027 with schools expected to be delivering by September 2028.

The curriculum will need to have moved, shaped and evolved significantly by this date in line with developments in the digital world. You could say it’s too slow to deal with emerging digital technologies and trends.

While others are preparing for the new curriculum, we’re already developing the next generation of digital learning experiences. Our curriculum will continue to evolve ‘real time’, having been adapted and updated to deliver new knowledge directly into the classroom.

We’re not just helping pupils keep up; we’re helping them lead.

In Summary

The new curriculum represents a national shift towards the kind of education Jam Coding has been delivering for years. We welcome these changes – because they confirm what we’ve always believed: every young person deserves the skills, confidence and creativity to thrive in a digital world.

At Jam Coding, we’re proud to already be leading that future, empowering teachers, inspiring pupils, and helping the next generation go further than ever before.
